Rip's Cleats
Rips Cleats, manufactured right here in Dawson Creek area and chosen by the 2010 Winter Olympic safety and security staff.
WHY RIP'S CLEATS
To a very large degree its ease of use. You simply wear them on the bridge of your foot when not needed and under the arch of the shoe when they are needed. They are where you are.
Next; the traction, with ours you are on solid ground with no slippage. The cleats dig into the ice about the same time as your heel contacts the ice and your other foot is firmly planted before the cleats ever leave the ice.
SHARPS
Our “Sharps” is the cleat that we have built our business on. They are extremely aggressive on ice with no slippage as long as you are wearing them correctly (directly in front of the heel). We make them in two configurations, a three and a four spike. The three spike is mounted on a rubber puck that is 5/8” narrower than the four spike, to fit kid’s feet and narrower shoes like some women’s shoes. These come in extra small, small and medium sizes. The four spike is wider and as such a more stable platform. The spike is a hardened high carbon steel with a white zinc coating making it spark resistant and very long lasting.
BLUNTS
Our “Blunts” are the same spike as the “Sharps” except the tip is ground off. We have been producing these for electrical contractors as the sharps could pierce electrical shielding. This requires an extra step so we have been charging $1.00 more. They are not as positive on ice as either of the others but because they are still sharp around the edge of the cleat they do not “skate” on ice as some tend to. I’m quite heavy and the only time I can notice a difference is when I’m wearing one of each kind. I got a gal that works for us (115Lbs) to try them and she agreed she could feel a difference when wearing one of each other wise she doesn’t notice any difference. In fact several of our builders wear them as they don’t stick into wooden decks. They do dimple wood however so slip them up onto the bridge of your foot where you can.
CERMAC
We think the “Cer Mac” will be the future in the oil and gas world. First it is still very aggressive on ice. Second it isn’t sticky sharp. Lastly it is yellow zinc plated with a ceramic alloy tip so it is spark proof until the zinc plating wears off. As such we are only stating spark resistant as are the sharps we currently have been using. They are three dollars more per pair at this time.
SAFETY ALERT:
1. Review the safety video on our below for safe practices.
2. When putting the cleats on your boots please do so in a sitting position.
3. When rotating the cleats brace yourself with something solid
